EarlyPoliticalCareer
JFK'spoliticalcareerbeganin1946whenhebecameaUSRepresentativeforthe11thCongressionalDistrictofMassachusetts.Asacongressman,hesupportedvarioussocialandeconomicprogramsaimedathelpingthepoorandworkingclass.In1953,hewaselectedtotheUSSenate,wherehecontinuedtoadvocateforprogressivelegislation.

PresidentialLegacy
In1960,JFKwontheDemocraticnominationforpresidentandwentontodefeatRichardNixoninahotlycontestedelection.Aspresident,Kennedyquicklysetaboutimplementinghisagenda,whichincludedthecreationofthePeaceCorps,theBayofPigsinvasioninCuba,andacommitmenttoputamanonthemoon.HealsoplayedakeyroleincalmingtensionsduringtheCubanMissileCrisis,whichbroughttheworldtothebrinkofnuclearwar.

Kennedy'spresidencywascutshortonNovember22,1963,whenhewasassassinatedwhileridinginanopencarduringaparadeinDallas,Texas.Themurdershockedthenationandbroughtanoutpouringofgrieffromaroundtheworld.
Today,JFK'slegacyasaleadercommittedtopublicserviceandprogressivechangeisstillcelebratedbymillionsofAmericans.Heremainsasymbolofhopeandinspirationforgenerationstocome.
