TheLifeofBramStoker

AbrahamStokerwasborninDublin,Irelandin1847.Hewasasicklychildandspentmuchofhisyouthbedridden.Despitehisillhealth,heexcelledacademicallyandwentontostudymathematicsatTrinityCollege,Dublin.Aftergraduating,heworkedasacivilservantandlaterasatheatrecriticfortheDublinEveningMail.In1878,StokermettherenownedactorHenryIrving,andsoonbecamehisbusinessmanagerattheLyceumTheatreinLondon.

Stoker'scareerasawriterbeganinearnestintheearly1890s.HisfirstmajorsuccesswasthenovelTheSnake'sPass,followedbyaseriesofhorrorstories,including\"TheJudge'sHouse\"and\"TheSquaw\".ButitwasDraculathatcementedhisplaceinliteraryhistory.Thenovelwasaninstantsensation,andtodayitisregardedasoneofthegreatesthorrorstorieseverwritten.
